AC Milan's sporting director, Igli Tare, has confirmed that the club is considering a possible swap deal involving Santiago Gimenez and Roma forward Artem Dovbyk.

Milan signed Gimenez from Feyenoord in February for a reported fee of €32 million. The 24-year-old scored six goals in 19 appearances for the Rossoneri across all competitions last season, as the club finished eighth in Serie A and failed to secure European football.

However, the Mexican's future at the San Siro appears uncertain following the arrival of manager Massimiliano Allegri. The 19-time Italian champions are reportedly eager to offload the forward and bring in a replacement before the transfer window closes on Monday, 1 September.

“We are evaluating an exchange between Dovbyk and Santi Gimenez," Tare told reporters. "If it’s possible, we’ll make the deal. If not, we stick with the current squad."

Gimenez has started both of Milan's league fixtures this season, with Rafael Leao sidelined due to a thigh injury. Despite his involvement, he has yet to find the back of the net, having played 87 minutes in Milan's 2-0 victory over Lecce on Friday.

As for Dovbyk, the Ukrainian striker is reportedly keen on the move, having rejected a previous offer from Fulham. The 28-year-old joined Roma from Girona last summer, scoring 17 goals in 45 appearances in his debut campaign for the Giallorossi.

However, reports suggest that Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini does not see Dovbyk as a perfect fit for his tactical setup, leaving the door open for a potential swap with Milan.
