Arsenal Join Race for Marc Guehi: Gunners Eye Crystal Palace Captain for Summer

The 25-year-old England international has just six months remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park, making him one of the most sought-after assets in the January 2026 window. 

While Arsenal invested heavily in the summer, signing the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze, Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen to further future-proof his defensive line.

Guehi’s appeal lies in his rare blend of composure and physical dominance. Often compared to William Saliba for his ability to read the game, Guehi averages 5.2 clearances and 4.4 ball recoveries per game this season. He is a "Baddie" in the truest footballing sense, possessing a calm, high-end aesthetic in possession while being a "monster" in 1v1 duels. 

For Arsenal, his addition would provide elite cover for the Saliba-Gabriel partnership, allowing Arteta to rotate his squad without a drop in quality during a grueling title race.

While Arsenal’s interest is strong, Manchester City are currently seen as the frontrunners for a January deal. Following significant injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, Pep Guardiola is "desperate" for defensive reinforcements and may be willing to meet Palace’s £30m–£40m asking price this month.

Arsenal, conversely, are reportedly leaning toward a summer move when Guehi would be a free agent. However, the risk of losing him to a direct title rival now could force Sporting Director Andrea Berta to pull the trigger on a mid-season bid.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has struck a pragmatic tone regarding his captain's future. Admitting he is "not naive," Glasner conceded that if a "massive offer" arrives from a club like City or Arsenal, the financial reality might outweigh the sporting benefit of keeping him. 

Having seen a £35m move to Liverpool collapse on deadline day last summer, Guehi is reportedly keen on a move to a Champions League-level club but remains a model professional as the Eagles’ captain.

Should Guehi arrive at the Emirates, it could spell an uncertain future for some of Arsenal's current defensive depth. With Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie already added to the ranks recently, the squad is becoming congested.

However, with Riccardo Calafiori and Mosquera currently sidelined with injuries, Guehi would offer immediate, Premier League-proven reliability. His arrival would signify Arsenal’s intent to build a "wall" that is not just functional, but impenetrable for years to come.
