Dani Carvajal has registered his desire to play alongside Manchester City’s Rodri at Real Madrid and has called on his Spain team-mate to join him at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos have been left without a holding midfielder since the departure of Toni Kroos at the end of the 2023-24 campaign. The exit of Luka Modric this summer also added to their hunger for an experienced campaigner in the middle of the park.

The 15-time European champions have been linked to a number of holding midfielders, with names like Vitinha, Rodri, and Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller reportedly on their radar.

Rodri, who spent most of last season on the sideline due to a serious knee injury, is arguably the best in his position and is seen as untouchable at City. The Premier League side are also preparing a lucrative new contract to keep the 29-year-old tied to the Etihad Stadium until 2029.

Reports suggest Madrid will test City and Rodri’s resolve next summer, and Carvajal has now openly expressed his desire to see the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner bolster their midfield options.

"I've already let him know,” the 33-year-old full-back said on COPE's El Partidazo program. “I hope he can be with us at the club in the future because he's a great player, but for now, I understand that he's just coming off a long-term injury and that he wants to repay the trust they've placed in the club."
