Kylian Mbappé scored a stunning hat-trick as Real Madrid thrashed Kazakh champions Kairat Almaty 5-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Manager Xabi Alonso hailed the French forward as “decisive” after he netted his 60th goal in the competition, helping Los Blancos bounce back from their 5-2 derby defeat to Atletico.

Mbappé, who has been in blistering form this season, opened the scoring in the 25th minute from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Sherkhan Kalmurza brought down Franco Mastantuono. Seven minutes after the restart, he doubled his tally with a moment of brilliance, controlling Thibaut Courtois’ long punt before lofting the ball over Kalmurza.

The 26-year-old completed his hat-trick in the 73rd minute, slotting into the bottom corner from an Arda Güler lay-off to bring up his 60th Champions League strike. Substitutes Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Díaz added late goals as Madrid secured their second straight European win.

Mbappé’s manager was quick to highlight his influence: “He’s decisive in practically every game,” Alonso said. “He’s clinical in front of goal. He also scored a spectacular goal the other day in the derby. We need his quality to flourish, not just for the goals, but for everything: for his influence. He can have a spectacular season.”

The hat-trick not only underlined Mbappé’s blistering start to life at the Bernabéu but also placed him in elite company. His 60th Champions League goal means only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo reached the milestone at a younger age, and he is now closing in on Raúl’s all-time tally of 71.

For Madrid, the performance was the perfect response to Saturday’s humiliation at the Metropolitano. Alonso’s side remain unbeaten in Europe this season and Mbappé’s form suggests they could once again be serious contenders for the crown they last lifted in 2022. With Villarreal next in La Liga, momentum is back on their side — and with Mbappé in this kind of form, Los Blancos may be impossible to stop.
