Danny Rohl has left his role as Sheffield Wednesday manager by mutual agreement, departing the troubled Championship club less than two weeks to the start of the new season.

The Owls are battling a number of issues, having been placed under sanctions due to financial problems. Owner Dejphon Chansiri is also looking to sell the club after players' salaries were paid late in May and June.

Rohl took over the Owls in October 2023 and led them to safety after they made their worst-ever start to a season. Wednesday finished 12th last campaign but won just one of their final nine matches.

Reports suggested the 36-year-old was set to leave the club in June after failing to report for pre-season training. But the German, who eventually returned earlier this month, has now confirmed his departure.

"A very special time is coming to an end, and I am incredibly grateful for the experiences we shared over 21 unforgettable months together," Rohl posted on Instagram. "This summer has been difficult, and, in the end, the club and I came to the mutual decision to part ways."

Wednesday, meanwhile, revealed that coaches Sascha Lense, Chris Powell, Neil Thompson, and Sal Bibbo have all also left, with Henrik Pedersen, who took pre-season training before Rohl's return, tipped as his successor. The Owls will begin their new campaign with a trip to Leicester City on 10 August.
